Cam Backup: A type of backup that uses cylinders to actuate pivot style heads.
Coarse Tooth Dies: Dies with the gripping teeth spaced apart. For more information click here.
Drill Pipe Tongs: A tong model suited for make-up and break-out of threaded drill stream pipe at higher torque levels.
Diesel Power Unit: A diesel engine that provides hydraulic power to Eckel tongs and other rig floor equipment.
Dual Tubing Tongs: A type of power tong having a open throat portion for laterally moving the tong on and off a string of tubing. The first string of tubing is made up while the second string of tubing is housed outside the body of the tong.
Electric Power Unit: A electric motor that provides hydraulic power to Eckel tongs and other rig floor equipment.
Fine Tooth Dies: DIes with the gripping teeth spaced closely together. For more information click here.
Grit Faced Dies: Used on corrosion resistant alloys (CRA) and fiberglass tubulars where reduced markings on the tubular is desired. For more information click here.
Hydra-Shift: Allows the operator to shift from high speed to low speed with the tong motor without using a shifting gear.
Hydra-Shift / Variable Shift: Allows the operator to shift from high speed to low speed with the tong motor without using a shifting gear. In addition a shifting gear is provided allowing the operator more control over the speed of the tong.
High Torque: A model of tong that has exponentially larger amount of torque than the previous version of that model or tong size.
Pivot Head: A type of head used in specific tongs that pivots out to the drill pipe or casing.
Radial Lock Door: A patented door locking system for Eckel tongs that allows for latchless locking of the tong door. The tong door swings easily open and closed and locks when torque is applied to the tong. When safety is important this locking mechanism combined with our safety door interlock provides unparallel safety while speeding up the turn around time between connections. The Radial Door Lock is patented proected in the following countries: Canada, Germandy, Norway, United Kingdom, and the United States.
Sliding Head: A type of head used in specific Eckel tongs that slides out from a pocket within the tong. This head biting system utilizes our wide angle wrap-around type dies and is considered the best choice of power tong biting systems for use on small tubular.
Torque Control System: A method used to monitor the torque turn values when making up tubular connections (Tubing, Casing, & Drill Pipe). Any flaws in the make-up process will be readily shown in a graph. For more information click here.
Tri-Grip Backup: A backup that uses two cylinders to grip the tubular. Two heads are actuated while the third head is stationary.
Ultra High Torque: A model of tong that has exponentially larger amount of torque than the previous version of that model or tong size.
