Hardening & Tempering

Heat treating is one of the most important steps in the production of a part, providing a combination of hardness, strength, and toughness. Eckel in-house heat treat insures parts are properly treated to meet our high quality standards. The parts are heated and quenched in a controlled carbon enriched atmosphere. The process consists of heating the part to a specific temperature and holding for sufficient time to ensure the whole work-piece is at temperature, then rapidly cooling it in oil (quenching).

The resultant temperature changes induce physical transformation of the steel, resulting in mechanical property changes.
