Engineering

Eckel engineering department use the latest 2D and 3D design tools. Special software allow us to perform load, stress, and analyses on parts before being released to manufacturing. With the advanced productivity tools Eckel is able to design parts and equipment that last longer and with stand extreme forces.

Thinking outside the box starts here. Our engineering team as years of experience and training to use all the latest tools. Our engineering team is always researching for innovative solutions for new products and existing products.

Our recent innovations include our patented radial door lock for latchless locking of the tong door. The tong door swings easily open and closed and locks when torque is applied to the tong. When safety is important this locking mechanism combined with our safety door interlock provides unparallel safety while speeding up the turn around time between connections.

Another innovative product from Eckel is our Automated Tong Positioning Equipment - TONGBOSS which removes the operator from the equipment and automatically aligns the tong on the pipe, no matter how many feet the connection is above the drill floor.

Equipment Performance Rating

Tongs and power units are performance rated to insure the unit meets or exceeds strict quality standards. Every tong is performance rated on a one of a kind test stand that is able to simulate a make-up and break-out torque in a variety of different loads. Using a detailed procedural checklist the unit is inspected, greased, and adjusted for strict compliance to Eckel standards. Eckel maintains a tong test data report indicating the unit weight, rpm, and torque ratings.

Upon request Eckel will supply a test certificate for tongs and power units that certify the equipment met or exceeded our high quality standards and performance ratings.
